The importance of a software update

Software updates in vehicles are recommended to ensure that the operating system provided by the manufacturer is always up to date. Sometimes, older software may behave differently than intended during the design phase, and over time, the need for modifications may become apparent for various reasons. These updates are often discreet and not always made public, as was the case with the diesel engine scandal.

However, updating the software offers several advantages. For example, if the vehicle has an RNS 510 or RNS 310 navigation system, depending on the year of manufacture, it may be necessary to update the CAN gateway to prevent the battery from discharging. However, many companies choose to solve this problem by charging the customer for the installation of a new CAN gateway, when in reality this update is a quick fix that costs significantly less.

In addition, software updates can add new features to the vehicle, such as ambient lighting or various comfort options that enhance the user experience.
